Registration is required. This program is limited to 50 PTPLD participants.
A total solar eclipse is happening Monday, April 8th! The majority of the diameter of the sun- .94 magnitude- will be covered in the Chicago area.
Join us for an overview of why eclipses happen and information on safe viewing. Participants will receive one pair of solar eclipse glasses to view the eclipse. After the informational session, participants can head outside to view the eclipse! The partial eclipse begins at 12:51pm, reaches its maximum at 2:07pm (0.94 Magnitude), and ends at 3:21pm.
Important: An eclipse is a rare and striking phenomenon you won't want to miss, but you must carefully follow safety procedures! The only safe way to look directly at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun is through special-purpose solar filters.
This program is made possible by SEAL, the Space Science Institute, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
